Ila McAfee

(Gunnison, Colorado, 1897 - 1995, Pueblo, Colorado)

Ila Mae McAfee is an American painter, muralist, illustrator and author born near Gunnison, Colorado in 1897. She studied at Western State Colorado College, the Arts Students League, and the National Academy of Design. During the depression, McAfee created office murals. Three of the murals he created were a tribute to her mother-in-law and presented to the Greeley, Colorado public library where she had served as an assistant librarian. McAfee was also an author and illustrator. She met her husband when they were both art students in Chicago. They were married in 1926 and moved to Taos, New Mexico in 1928. In 1981 she was designated Taos Artist of the Year. She passed away in 1995.
