From AskARt: A seascape and landscape painter, Edward Betts studied at the Art Students League and Yale University. He acquired an M.F.A. at the University of Illinois, Champaign, where he also taught from 1949 to the 1970s. He began painting in the late 1940s on Monhegan Island, Maine. His work was exhibited in five Corcoran Biennials, and he is the author of books on painting landscapes and seascapes in watercolor and acrylic. Professor Betts passed away on May 17, 2008 and was buried in Kennebunk, Maine. --- From NationalAcademy.Org: Born in 1920, Edward Betts studied at the Art Students League, earned a BA from Yale University, and an MFA from the University of Illinois. After teaching for 35 years at the University of Illinois in 1984, he lived and worked in Kennebunk, ME until he passed in 2008. One-person exhibitions include Contemporary Arts, Inc.; John Heller Gallery; Midtown Galleries; Krannert Art Museum, University of Illinois; Galveston Art Center; Phillips Exeter Academy; Retrospective, Iowa Wesleyan College Museum; Civic Art Center; Feingarten Gallery, Chicago; and the Swope Art Gallery, Terre Haute, IN.
